A Roundtable Discussion with Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank Group
Dr. Jim Yong Kim, 12th president of the World Bank Group, visited The North-South Institute on June 10th, 2013 for a productive discussion with 10 key Canadian development thinkers, academics and CSO leaders on international development issues.
Dr. Kim addressed the group by presenting the World Bank’s vision for ending poverty and boosting shared prosperity which according to him will require sustainable economic growth. In turn, he added that strong inclusive growth demands progress in education, health, nutrition and investment in essential infrastructure. He discussed the role of the private sector in development and solicited participants’ views and suggestions on new directions and how the private sector and development actors can work collectively in order to achieve equitable and sustainable growth. He stressed the importance of informed research in assisting development agencies, like the World Bank, in scaling up best practice policy solutions through developing a “science of delivery” of past successes.
