Guests at the Big Table: Growth of the Extractive Sector, Indigenous/Peasant Participation in Multi-Partite Processes and the Canadian Presence in Peru

Published: November 4, 2011

“Guests at the Big Table? Growth of the Extractive Sector, Indigenous/Peasant Participation in Multi-Partite Processes, and the Canadian Presence in Peru” by José De Echave of CooperAcción (Peru), was commissioned by The North-South Institute (NSI) as part of NSI’s ongoing research programme on Indigenous Peoples’ rights and decision-making in the extractive sector of Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada. The primary research and perspectives highlighted in this paper provide critical insights to help guide company and government policies and actions at a time when socio-environmental conflicts around extractives in Peru are escalating, while investments and interest in this sector – particularly by Canadian companies – continue to grow.
