Gender and Urban (In)Security in Fragile and Conflict-Affected States

Rapid urbanization is creating development challenges and opportunities in fragile and conflict-affected states, particularly in relation to security. The gendered aspects of urban security are important, but often overlooked. This paper analyzes security understandings and local needs from a gender-sensitive perspective and explores what security means for urban populations. It provides policy options for engaging with urban insecurity from a gender-sensitive perspective.
